So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire!
During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.
So I would love to introduce you to an awesome online store where you can find gorgeous leather handbags and stunning jewellery and accessories! Their handbags are absolutely divine, and they can be personalized with your initials for FREE. How special is that?
So we chatted to Jordyn about AND SEEK store! This is what she had to say.
You started your own business – How does it feel to be a successful #girlboss that inspires others and loves what she does?
Firstly, I feel extremely privileged to be able to do something I love to do daily. A lot of people see the successes of your business but never the very long winding road it takes to get there ( and in my opinion, I am far from “there” ). I have started many ventures, some have failed and some have succeeded, but without each and every one of those ventures I would not have the skillset or knowledge to journey into the next venture. There are so many different facets to what success looks like to different people, and although I feel successful in some ways, I know I still have a long way to go – which is exciting!
What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?
Jeez, so many! I feel like almost every month you learn a difficult lesson or life lesson! For me, learning to cater to an online market was and still is challenging. Just when you think you figure it out, there comes another curveball. The idea of “build it and they will come” is exactly that – an idea! I think the second difficult learning for me was the realisation that in order for my brand to grow I need to loosen the reigns and trust other people to strengthen my brand for me in whatever avenue they are strongest in.
You think that only you have your business’ best interest at heart (which, at the end of the day is true) and I think that’s what held me back much longer than it should have, but finding people you can trust in your vision and your brand’s direction is something so wonderful. I have seen &Seek absolutely transform in ways I didn’t know how to transform to without the expertise from different people in the different sectors. Trusting your instincts would be the third learning for me thus far. I often trust people and their opinions too closely and forget that my instincts and opinions are more important and should be closely followed and the opinions from others should be taken as suggestions if asked for.
Fear is also an instinct that should be appreciated, but not overwhelm you. Picking yourself up from a fall and running head first into the next challenge is part of it and should become second nature.
Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.
When I look back 5 years ago and where I was and the person I was then, it’s quite exciting to think about 5 years in the future and all the possibilities that could unfold! I have many many goals, both personally and professionally for each sector and business I have in my life which are also ever-changing. Currently, I foresee &Seek to grow a stronger connection with our customers, with an ever-growing product offering but most importantly, to remain focused on the core values of the brand and continue in adding value to our customers everyday lives.
What is your advice to women out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?
My advice would be to go for it! Have a strong support structure ( friends, family, mentors) to help you along the way. Keep focused on your goals but also be realistic with yourself. Running your own business is no joke, you need to be willing to WORK! More often than not you might feel the hard times are outweighing the good, but if you want something enough you will always make it work. Keep yourself inspired and motivated and NEVER compare your journey with someone else’s journey.
Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?
I personally love owning my own business because I know I have full control over my well-being and my future. It is completely up to me to give myself a life I want. There is something so empowering in that feeling.
From that point you are able to help others around you and spread happiness, all knowing that your hard work and dedication got you there. It has been SO rewarding seeing my businesses grow and transform and seeing my happy customers reminds me why I love to do what I do.
Please check out their online store! And follow them on Instagram!
They would love and appreciate the follow and shares!
