So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

Lockdown has allowed me to spend more (some may say too much) time on social media and I found the lovely Dear Dawn clothing brand through Instagram. If you are looking for gorgeous blouses, skirts, dresses – this is the local business you need to follow. Their clothing is absolutely stunning, and you will feel beautiful wearing their clothing too! Check out their website to browse and shop online.

Please follow Dear Dawn on Instagram and Facebook, they would appreciate the love!

We chatted to the lovely #girlboss behind Dear Dawn, Cindy Kinnear and she had this to say.

Dressing should be a way to make you feel good about yourself. Dear dawn aims to inspire clothing yourself with strength and dignity. We aim to promote and sell items to compliment everybody and to make each lady feel lovely in all our items.

We are all about making every lady feel stunning in a clothing item that fits and looks great. We range from formal dresses, summer dresses, winter dresses, skirts, tops, bridesmaids dresses and many more. Facebook message or email us about orders or custom made clothing.

Tell us a little bit about your business.

Dear Dawn is a proudly South African business driven to empower women through the way they view themselves. Creating and changing mindsets and their body image. Implementing a modest yet stylish way of dressing and promoting a body-positive image and good personal self-esteem.

We also pride ourselves in making a high-quality product by using women from the direct community to make each item.

A name carries great significance and can hold influential meaning, our name Dear Dawn is biblically inspired. Dawn literally refers to a new day, when the sun tears through the clouds and brings light, brings new hope and perspective.

So we hope that every time you put on a Dear Dawn item that you will feel good, it would feel like you are tearing through the darkness of this world and showing your light. For we are called to shine, to spread, and to radiate God’s renewing hope, light, and love. Therefore we want to anthem, dear new beginning by calling it Dear Dawn.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

To have your own business it’s going to take a lot of constant hard work, building a social media platform is not as easy as we think and sales are never fixed, one month can be great and the next can be terrible. We need to keep a constant trend in our advertising and marketing.

Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.

I see Dear Dawn as a successful clothing company, booming and thriving. God has called us to thrive not only survive. I know God has a plan for Dear Dawn and as long as we walk in His light, we will succeed.

What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Run after your dream. God gives us dreams and we need to follow and pursue them. Something I heard one day, never dream too big, the dream might be too big that you never will start, have small dreams and each small dream will lead to the original big dream.

Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?

You get to have flexible working hours and you are building your own dream, not someone else’s dream. Makes it all the worth while.

How has lock down affected you and your team?

To be dead honest, Corona did not affect us. We can only be thankful to Jesus for carrying us through this time. But we can truly say we are blessed and booming.
