Sustainable shopping (and selling!) with Encore Clothing

I recently went through a spring clean that had me getting rid of anything that didn’t fit or I hadn’t worn in the last month or two – as I was truly overdue for a clothing purge. Tired of saying ONE DAY IT WILL FIT or MAYBE IT WILL COME BACK INTO FASHION. So I tried to sell most of my items on Facebook but it really was a mission – I was let down by so many people and found that I was driving all over Joburg to drop off clothes and actually not making any money as I was using it all to assist others buy from ME! Made no sense.

Then I found Lara Rocchi and my solution; Encore Clothing. Encore Clothing buys and sell stylish, gently worn clothing – and does the work for you! They curate all these beauties in one place, photograph and advertise the merchandise for you, and at the end of the month they pay you for your sales.. if you don’t spend it on other items with her – which is hard as she has such beautiful stock.

This incredible entrepreneur is a legal professional by trade. Her business was born out of her own experience trying to sell her all her beautiful work clothing after leaving legal practice and the frustrations that surrounded it. Encore Clothing was thus started to help make selling (any buying) easier for her clients.

Encore Clothing sells upmarket, almost new – some with tags still on – clothing, shoes and accessories. You can find brands such as Zara, Topshop, Aldo, Witchery, Valentino and Country Road on the site.

They also offer door to door delivery on your purchases – you don’t have to leave home to shop. What a dream come true! And another plus? Its sustainable – less clothing going into landfills, more clothing getting a second chance at a happy life on your body!

I posed a few questions to our inspirational #girlboss Lara, here is the Q&A!

Lara Rocchi – Encore Clothing founder

You started your own business – How does it feel to be a successful #girlboss?

Most of the time it’s surreal. I’ve always wanted to have my own business, and I’m finally doing it. It’s hard to believe it’s not a dream, or that I’m not playing a game.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

– Don’t sell yourself short or discount what you do when you are offering a valuable service.
– Focus on making your business better every day and not just on sales.
– Computer coding is not for sissies!

Where do you see your business in 2 years? What are your hopes and dreams for Encore Clothing?

I want Encore Clothing to change the way South African women view consignment and the gently worn clothing market. It is often perceived as second-rate, but this is not the case, certainly not with Encore Clothing items. Also, by consigning and shopping consignment items, we are ensuring a lighter tread on the earth.

What is your advice to women out there ready for a career change and wanting to do something new but are too scared?

If you are going to start something new, do something that speaks to you, but make sure it’s also something that is needed by other people and not just loved by you. Also, remember that there are very few things that can’t be altered if they don’t work out, so don’t let the fear of failing stop you from making a change.

Check out the Encore Clothing website, please note that it may become your next retail addiction!

Give Encore Clothing some love, follow them on Instagram and Facebook to see new stock and specials. You can thank me later! All clothing bought during lockdown will be couriered the moment allowed to be. Keep shopping!

The Encore Promise:
“The team at Encore Clothing makes sure all garments undergo thorough quality control before we consign them. If an item doesn’t look almost new, we will not feature it on our website. Thus our customers are assured that all purchases will be as good as new.”
