Explore Clarens

Clarens is so beautiful that it blows my mind. In just under 4 hours drive from Joburg, and on the boarder of Lesotho, what’s not to love.

We have been to Clarens a few times and the last time we decided to stay just outside of Clarens, at Fairview Estates. They have various accommodation options, but for my birthday, I wanted to stay in the Twin Towers! These towers have been seen across various travel programmes on tv and print, most recently in the Getaway magazine.

The towers are made from refurbished grain silos and the décor is just so perfect – so South African. We loved it! There is a fully functional kitchen, lovely braai area and views for days. We even heard jackals at night.

We paid R1800 per night, and the towers sleep 8 people – across two queen size beds and 2 sets of double bunks.

The alpacas were too much fun. We spend hours photographing them, watching them and trying to get as close to them as possible! They are super fun to watch and very curious so will not take their eyes off of you.

For those who want, there is a tv and Dstv for your pleasure.

If you have a problem with stairs though, this is not the place for you as there is one spiral stair case that goes from top to bottom, across each floor – so if you have bad knees, this isn’t for you.

There are gorgeous shops and restaurants all along the main drag in Clarens’ town. Park your car and spend the day wondering and you will not go home empty handed!

If you have the time, go across into Lesotho – its quick and easy, just remember your passport.

We then went through to the Golden Gate Highway National Park and where blown away at the utter beauty before us. You can drive around, there is no admission cost and see beautiful rolling hills and buck and zebra scattered around you. They also have magnificent hiking trails. They have restaurants, a hotel and small farm stalls throughout so you can get something to drink and eat if you so wish. We had a picnic and sat and admired the views.
