So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire!
During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.
I discovered the HEY CASEY brand due to their awesome marketing that appeared in front of my face every time I went on to social media – I didn’t know I needed a personalized cell phone cover until I saw these and now I know I do! Anything you could dream of, can be put onto your cover – for your laptop or cell phone. The options are endless!
we chatted to the HEY CASEY girlboss, Michell and she had this to say!
Please tell us a little about your business and your products?
I started Hey Casey! in 2016 at my dining room table – there was a lot of trail and error but eventually I got the “recipe” to my online business right and now we are thriving. We specialise in trendy phone case designs and custom printed products. If you would like your photo or your design printed on a phone case you simply upload it to our website and we print it for you. Our custom phone cases, laptop skins and mouse pads are very popular.
You opened your own business – How does it feel to be a business owner that loves what they do?
I am a big believer in the saying “love what you do and you will never work a day in your life” My work is my hobby. I usually get up at 3am and get my day going simply because my brain does not switch off. Especially if we are developing new products or designs – I’m too excited to sleep. To be able to do what you love on a daily basis AND support other families (staff) with it is not just amazing, its an honour.
What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?
Plan ahead – if you want your business to grow you need to have a goal with a step by step plan to reach it. Invest in your staff – It is impossible to build a successful business with people that are not on your team.
I know that my team is strong and that they are 90% of the success, and I make sure they know it.
Be picky – if your product is popular you might get many different offers, be picky about who you want to represent your brand. The “best” option does not always bring the best results.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
We are always expanding, and I always have new plans, which hopefully we will achieve before then. 5 Years is an extremely long time in the world of eCommerce.
What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?
Take the leap. You will never know if you don’t try. You have to believe in yourself, and have a good support system. It doesn’t happen overnight, and building a business doesn’t happen from 8-5. Be prepared to put in the hours.
Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?
I love the freedom and the fact that I make all the decisions. I also love that we are creating local employment – all women!
How has lock down affected you?
Just like everyone else, we had to adapt. We are very privileged to have built up a substantial customer base over the years, and we still accepted orders which we started delivering during level 3. I am convinced that we will come out of this stronger 😉
