So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.
During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.
I recently discovered the most awesome and BRAND NEW gifting business so this is hot off the press and I ask you to please support Il Dono. They have a divine, easy to use website that allows you to choose a gift and have it delivered to your nearest and dearest. Let’s see what the team behind Il Dono had to say about their business!
You have just started a brand new business – Tell us about it and what products you will be selling ?
Il Dono is a gifting service that puts together premium gift packages and will have them delivered to your door, or directly to a loved one, as a gift.
The idea was born from lockdown, a time where none of us were able to see our loved ones or make them feel special during tough times, or special occasions. At this point, you can typically find a variety of sweet edibles, accessories, some handmade leather items, patterned socks and self care items in our boxes. We are also able to assist in creating custom gift boxes if you have something special in mind.
Il Dono means “the gift” in Italian, a homage to the wreckage caused in Italy by this crisis.
Also a little reminder of how fortunate we have been here, to not have experienced the same great loss.
In the position that many of us find ourselves in: having lost jobs or having had life-altering consequences, we hope to be the little bit of light, spreading love in the form of care packages.
What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own businesses – I know its early days but perhaps some insights?
VERY early days still, but still incredibly grateful for the support we have received so far.
I have learnt so much in this first month of business – in simple skills. In my previous job I didn’t have to worry about anything business, tax, admin or customer related so this really has been such a whirlwind for me. I have had an incredible mentor and fellow boss babe – Sabrina Kennedy from Bibi Rouge – who I admire and respect so much, supporting me in ways I can not even begin to explain.
Where do you see your businesses in 5 years?
I ran with this idea, and we have been going full steam since launching our website mid May, I have barely had a chance to stop and think – what will this become? For now all I can say is I hope to have delivered love and light in many care packages to every recipient of one of our boxes, whether it be a gift from someone or a moment of – treat yo’self. Spread love – that’s it so far.
What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?
I’m sure this is a pretty common piece of advice – but just do it, you will figure it out along the way!
And you really will, for so long I have wanted to start up a side-hustle but have always thought I don’t know enough about business. With a little bit of encouragement, you will learn those things.
