So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire!
During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.
I came across the lovely Isimodeni Jewellery and knew I had to share this awesome local find. Their beaded jewellery is really beautiful and unique and the colours are bright and make a statement with any outfit.
We chatted to the lovely Nomfundo, founder of Isimodeni Jewellery about their very special business. They said the inspiration for Isimodeni Beaded Jewellery is drawn from traditional beaded jewellery, it’s colours, patterns and it’s geometric simplicity. Sterling silver is used as the framework that embodies the beautifully beaded Jewellery and then fashioned as the components that make up earrings, necklaces and rings.
You opened your own business – How does it feel to be a successful business owner that inspires others and loves what they do?
I’m not sure if can use the word successful at the moment but I strive to be one day. If there is anyone that is inspired by my journey in business then I’m humbled and grateful that there is a small difference that I’m making.
What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?
Consistency is key.
Be the brand, wear the brand.
Never be shy of what you’ve done and to put a price on it.
Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.
I would like to see my business working like a well oiled machine that does need my attention all the time. I wish to employ students straight from university as I know how hard it is to find work after your Degree or Diploma.
What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?
All you have to do is START or else you’ll never know what could have or should have been. Your business idea could be the next best thing, who knows.
Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?
I love seeing peoples reactions once they fall in love with my jewellery, the smile on their faces makes everything worth while. I love being part of a loved one’s story (cheesey I know but lol that’s who I am)
How has lock down affected you and your team?
I work alone and as much as that can be overwhelming sometimes, I’m glad because the lockdown had changed alot of people lives in some way or the other. The fact that I didn’t have anyone depending on my business whilst still waiting for the different levels to be open was a great relief. It’s only now that jewellers are allowed to manufacture and courier items so there was no income during the first few levels.
