So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.
During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.
I found the most divine business selling gorgeous reusable bags and I knew you would all want to see them! With the amount of plastic that is covering our beautiful (polluted ) world, if you are not using reusable bags at this stage, you definitely need to! Kare has various options available for you on their website.
The lovely Keren had this to say about her business, Kare.
You opened your own beautiful business – How does it feel to be a successful business owner that inspires others and loves what they do?
To be honest, it is hard to swallow. I’m young and I’m still growing into my role so it’s extremely motivating knowing that I inspire others to pursue what they love.
What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?
Wow, there have been so many learning curves.
#1 Persistence is key.
#2 There are truly no concrete rules when it comes to business so being decisive is essential.
#3 Patience. Apparently, (unlike what it appears on Instagram) it takes a lot more time than we are made to believe for a business to take off. (Sarcastic).
There are many ups and downs and one has to be prepared for the rollercoaster. Like everything else on social media, starting a business can often seem much easier than it is.
Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.
In 5 years we plan to offer a wider variety of bags and other environmentally conscious products. Our goal is always to make living plastic-free easier for our customers so were are defiantly looking forward to innovating new products. We plan to do more community projects and improve plastic-pollution in underprivileged communities. Especially post corona, people need jobs and we’d love to provide more work opportunities. We have many ideas on how to educate our community and demonstrate that changing one’s lifestyle can be a lot easier than we think.
What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?
Start small and invest what you can afford. Use your community and your friends and family to pitch your ideas to them.
Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?
Firstly being able to do a range of tasks and not being stuck behind a screen all day. Having a business is like going to the “University of life”. You learn so much about things everyone should know like tax, pricing, marketing and one becomes so much more aware of the underbelly of all businesses and where our spending goes. Secondly, being able to schedule my time.
For example, yesterday I got an opportunity to go diving and I could schedule my day around that. (Don’t get me wrong I’ve missed out on a lot of fun activities because of the hard work that goes into it but there are many times when I can participate in outdoor adventures because of having the freedom to schedule my time.
