So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

As you all know my biggest love is travelling and when I discovered MemoMag, I just thought this was the most amazing idea! Magnets on your fridge that have all your gorgeous memories on them. And the stunning Michelle, #girlboss and founder of MemoMag kindly gifted me 18 gorgeous magnets from all my photos to keep my memories close! Aren’t they divine?

Check out their website here to place your order! Pricing starts at R200 for a set of 12!

Please follow MemoMag on Instagram and Facebook, and leave a review – they would appreciate the love!

We chatted to the lovely Michelle and she had this to say!

You have just started a brand new business – Tell us about it and what products you will be selling?

I started MemoMag due to my love of photographs. I wanted to create a new use for them and in turn create an easier way to display them.

Photographs have a special nostalgia about them, and I wanted to bring that nostalgia to a larger audience.

MemoMag was started during lockdown as I couldn’t go out. I kept going through old photos and reminiscing about all those special memories. Thus, MemoMag was born.

MemoMags are your photos printed on high quality, gloss, magnetic photo paper. Magnetic, so that you can display them on your fridge or any magnetic surface area around your house. Each magnetic photo is 7cm X 7cm in size. Large enough to see from a distance, but small enough to display dozens of them. We sell MemoMags in sets of 12, 18 and 24. Memories are worth preserving, because they hold the real lives of real people. We make those memories easy to display and allow you to relive them daily.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own businesses?

1. Know your market. It is so important to know who your target market is and who you are talking to. I started another business 2 years ago and failed because I did not know the market and couldn’t understand how to market the product.

With MemoMag, I have a clear understanding as to who I want to speak to. I created audience persona’s and wrote stories about them so that I can get a better understanding about what content to create.

It is still early days for MemoMag, but having a clear understanding as to who you want to talk to makes it so much easier to get your brand out there.

2. Failure leads to success. No one wants to fail, but it is all part of the journey. It took countless attempts of product trials to get my product right. Never get discouraged by failure, see it as a step closer to where you want to be.

3. People with great passion can make the impossible happen.

Where do you see your businesses in 5 years?

In 5 years I would like MemoMag to have a community where everyone is celebrated. Life is tough and the world around us is changing, but I would like MemoMag to represent happiness for all of our customers. I would also like MemoMag to become a trusted brand amongst consumers, as well as a successful online business. Collaboration with photographers is also a goal of mine in order for them to offer their clients MemoMags as part of their photoshoot packages.

What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Use your fear as a motivator. Take the leap of faith and have trust in the unknown. I have failed before and it has taken a lot for me to put myself out there again, but at the end of the day it is all worthwhile. Never lose sight of your vision and know that you are always working towards a bigger goal, no matter how big or how small the task is at hand. Trust yourself, trust your gut and know that you can achieve what you set your mind to.
