So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

I discovered a divine local business that make very bespoke frames! Their frames are just gorgeous – and so different to your run of the mill normal frames that we all buy from retailers that actually come from China. These are made here in SA! Local is very much lekker in this case 🙂 Check them out, and you will also love them as much as I do!

They also sell prints to go into your frames, lots of options on their website.

Please give them some support and a follow on their Facebook and Instagram pages – they would be very grateful!  Check out their website to see their frames and the prints on offer!

We chatted to the lovely Lisa, owner of Mesa Frames and she had this to say to us!

Tell us a little bit about your business.

Our story starts with a positive outlook on difficult times with a passion for design in our back pockets and everything pertaining to it. We thrive off working hard to achieve only the best outcomes for the work we set out to do and find our end results so rewarding.

During the recent economic crisis, many companies have found themselves in, we are two of the many individuals impacted by this.

The design industry and many others have taken a significant knock and we have witnessed remarkable changes in the lives of our families, colleagues, and friends.

Passion for design, hard work to achieve only the best outcomes for our products, proud of quality results. Strong, durable and elite product with a variety of front face colours made up of a high pressure laminate and very durable.

The inside perimeter of the frame has curved details to soften the overall look and is unique to the market. The frame itself is an art piece and can be used in a landscape and portrait orientation in X-Small, Small, Medium and Large. They can be used for photography, art, menus, awards as well as promotions. An additional offering is BB Grade Birch Plywood shelving with black or white brackets.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

Take the time to research your suppliers well because this can cost you a lot of money if you do not put the time and effort into this.

Ensure that your suppliers that you choose have good references and are reliable. Always go with your gut.

We have learnt that there are a lot of people out there willing to help you and don’t be ashamed to accept the help.

Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.

We would love to have our own décor shop and have our products on our own e-commerce site.

What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Don’t fear, just do it. We decided to do this during the most difficult financial time of our lives but we pushed through with the help of family and friends and never gave up on our vision. Make sure that you have the right support system. We are very blessed to have each other, when one of us was discouraged, the other would bring them back again. This is very important!

Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?

You can make your own decisions and trust the risks you take.

Earning your own income and being in charge of your own future.
