So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

This segment has helped me find the most awesome local businesses and this one is a very special one! I was thrilled to find Mrs Rose and see the gorgeous dresses, skirts, robes, tops and masks they make and then found myself on their website for hours as I looked at each and every item they make so lovingly. Such a wide variety of pieces, to suit your own personal style. So many mix and match options for bridesmaids or for any event or even to wear at home! We all love to dress up 🙂

I mean aren’t these designs stunning? And made locally – what a win! Their main objective is to help women feel confident and beautiful in their pieces, which is divine. Shows such passion for what they do!

So we spoke to the lovely Ronel and she had this to say!

You started your own business – How does it feel to be a successful #girlboss that inspires others and loves what she does?

It feels great to be living my dream and I love what I do. There is something so exciting about working on your “BIG DREAM” you’ve had for years. But with that said, I think being a #girlboss also has it’s challenges and daily problems to be solved. Let’s just say NEVER A DULL MOMENT 🙂 That is why it so important to always remember why you’ve started.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

I always knew it was going to be hard to start your own business but it was a lot harder than I thought. I worked full time in the fashion industry while running my brand for 18 months until I took the step of resigning and doing it full time. You think you would have more time when you resign but there is never enough time in a day to get everything done. So always remember that tomorrow is another day.

Some of the other things I’ve learned:

People are so important, you can’t do this alone. We need to train and trust others to come alongside us to make this dream a reality.

Processes are so important for a successful business and makes your life so much easier.

Resting and boundaries are essential. There was a stage in the business where I was seeing customer’s at late hours at night and on Sunday’s. I just said yes to all business even though it wasn’t necessarily right for the brand. And I just got so burnt out! Resting is just as important to be successful as hard work! So ladies, put boundaries in place, do not try to please everyone to your own detriment.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

I see Mrs Rose expanding and creating more jobs for many people in South Africa. Growing the local manufacturing industry and making more woman feel beautiful every day! Super excited!

What is your advice to women out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Just go for it, take a chance and that step out of you comfort zone otherwise you will never know! Like my story – I still worked full time for 18 months while running my business just to build brand awareness and customer relationships. All my first orders were word of mouth just because I really built those relationships with my customers and really helped their vision come alive. So take that leap of faith but it is also good to test the waters and build something before you do it full time.

Having your own business is super rewarding and so much fun but be ready to work harder than you’ve ever worked before.

Also do everything with excellence, or don’t do it at all.

Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?

What I love most about my business and what makes all the hard work so worth it is when you see someone wearing MRS ROSE and they just feel so beautiful and confident. We just love making people feel their absolute BEST! To celebrate uniqueness and inspire confidence in a woman – that is why we do what we do!

How has lockdown affected your business?

April and May would have been the biggest months yet for Mrs Rose and unfortunately all those weddings moved out to later in the year or next year. So we are sitting with so much stock in our showroom. So it has been a scary time but also such a blessing to just have time to really spend planning new ranges and visons for the business.

We were also blessed to have an essential service certificate and sold masks during lockdown. We have also been focusing on some elopement dresses for those brides wanting to get married now and party later.

Check out their website for more! And give them a follow on Instagram and Facebook– they would love the support x
