So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

I discovered this divine local jewellery business here in Joburg and knew I just had to share. Nicolina Jewellery prides themselves on their hand crafted beauties, made with love and so much attention to detail. How stunning are their pieces? I’m a huge fan!

Please visit their website to shop online or send them a message to chat about a custom piece! Please also give them a follow on Instagram and Facebook, they would appreciate the love.

The lovely Nicolina, #girlboss behind Nicolina Jewellery had this to say to us.

Tell us about your business and what products you are selling?

At Nicolina Jewellery Our pieces are born from fire, pressure and earth, but they are brought to life here in our studio and workshop.

We are constantly pushing the boundaries of modern jewellery designs by combining raw, organic elements of nature with elegantly refined angles of metals and cut stones. This results in a collection of chic, minimalistic jewellery that women and men can feel comfortable and confident wearing.

Our main aim is creating bespoke unique pieces that fit to a clients specifications. We love creating new heirlooms.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own businesses – I know it’s early days but perhaps some insights?

Managing my time- when I first started out working towards my goals I found it tiring, confusing and so unorganized. It’s still something I have to work on everyday.

Being consistent and frequent is the key to achieving anything. Taking progress photos and posting on social media to showcase the amount of work that is put into creating something so special.

It’s been a big struggle to price handmade Jewellery, making jewellery by hand takes time and precision. Especially when working with precious stones and metals. As a handcrafted jeweler we are competing against mass produced jewellery.

Where do you see your businesses in 5 years?

Some of my future goals for the next few years include leading a remarkable team of Jewellers, creating a environment that is fun and exciting yet challenging at the same time.

I’ve had amazing teachers and mentors, so I’d like to provide similar guidance.

It would be an absolute dream if I could one day own my own little shop that I can work from and sell my own pieces and growing my own brand, With that said, also creating employment and benefiting the economy.

What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Take the risk, it’s worth all the work and hard hours you put in.

Do it with passion, it’s the most important thing, to love what you do and do it with your whole heart.
