So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

I was so excited when I found this local business creating the most gorgeous candles I have ever seen. In my entire life. So I just had to share the beautiful Okra Candle with you! These candles come in a variety of unique shapes, in any colour you could possibly want and are oh so elegant! These beautiful candles are made locally here in South Africa, and every candle is hand poured with love.  I chatted to the Okra Candle team and this is what they had to say!

You opened your own business  –  How does it feel to be a successful business owner that inspires others and loves what they do?

We opened our business January 2020 | When is a business truly successful – I think it can be measured by always staying true to your core business identity and in the process looking after your clients. As long as we are able to sustainably put smiles on individuals face with our candles – okra. is a happy team.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

Having to deal with courier companies is stressful – We wish we could hand deliver each order.

Ordering supplies from aboard is a tedious followup game – Certain supplies we can’t get from local suppliers 🙁 and so we had to venture abroad. Let’s just say Local is always more preverbal – Communication, Time and Budget wise.

Never under estimate the capacity you will require to expand your business.

Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.

Having a bigger studio with more candle makes to spread candle love on international base. We want to educate and create as many local job opportunities as we as a startup company possible can.

What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

If you find something that makes your soul happy – then follow it. And, if things happen organically – then its meant to be.

AND – just do it, its is not is but it is worth it.

Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?

Dealing with different clients on daily basses and being allowed to follow your own creative urges. We are doing this for our own vision – we are just extremely lucky that our end product is marketable.
