So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire!

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

A few years ago I started to follow Daniella of Shopology on Instagram and I have so enjoy seeing what she finds when she heads to the mall (in her high heels), always looking like a vision and leaving with handfuls of bags and a happy smile on her face! She is so passionate about finding items for her customers and truly loves what she does.

You opened your own business – How does it feel to be l business owner that loves what they do?

When it’s your own business it’s hard to stop working and switch off. You’re willing to put in much more work, but it’s also far more rewarding. I love what I do so much that most days it doesn’t feel like work & I don’t even want to charge my clients. Getting to spend other people’s money for a living is a lot of fun.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

The first lesson is definitely that people will try and take advantage of you if you’re a young business owner. I’ve also learnt to stop giving my services for free or discounting it. Knowing your worth & the value you bring is important to learn. The most important lesson I had to learn was that it’s critically important to manage expectations with clients from the beginning.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

Since I’ve been doing this business for more than 5 years and I’ve seen the growth and the database of returning clients I’ve had, I would like to see this double in the next 5 years.

What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Everyone has had a great business idea in their life, the execution of that idea is what will really set that business apart. But don’t automatically think you can’t do it. Plan it out properly and see if it makes sense. But remember, it always seems very intimidating and overwhelming until you start actually doing it.

Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?

Being able to take holidays or days off for life events or when you’re just burnt out is definitely a big benefit of having your own business. The other best part has to be the freedom! No two days of mine have ever been the same. I get to choose when to meet with clients, when to shop or set up styling shoots.

How has lock down affected you as you haven’t been able to go to malls until recently? How have you kept busy?

The malls were closed for 5 weeks, in which time I couldn’t work at all, now that stores have opened again I’ve got a lot of work and clients, which is great! I’m someone who likes to keep busy, so I was putting my energy into my social media: creating content and trying to grow my audience. This was also a way for me to stay in touch with some of my clients
