So as you all know I love to support local and started a segment where we could share, learn and inspire! It is so important to support local and share your findings with others.
During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all.

The lovely Annabel, the #girlboss behind Styletica had this to say about her blossoming new business.
You have just started a brand new stunning gym wear brand, Styletica – Tell us about it and what products you will be selling ?
Styletica has be born out of the complete love and passion for exercise and feeling confident in your activewear when you go to gym or the shops. I started exercising in 2017 to lose weight and get fit and healthy after having my two children. I lost 15kg on my journey.
The weight loss journey meant that I started exploring the world of activewear and then started battling to find items that were both comfortable, high waisted and not see through.
Active wear that makes each and every women feel confident and comfortable in their own skin.
I wanted to create a brand that was designed with a lot of thought and care. Once I had designed them I wanted all the products to be made with high quality fabrics.
This brand has been designed by myself and is all locally made in South Africa which I am incredibly proud of. I started with a small range of products, the classic black range and the raspberry range. Two complete opposite colours, but I love a pop of colour in my activewear collection and I could not turn the raspberry colour down. The raspberry range is a limited addition range as well. The sports bras are supportive for all range of exercise and the pants are beyond comfy you might never want to wear anything else.
What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own businesses – I know its early days but perhaps some insights?
Patience:
It takes time to build a brand, from the designs of the clothing, logo, samples, trial and error this all takes time. I wanted to launch this business way earlier than I did but everything takes time. So exercise patience, it will all come together in the end.
Time Management and Planning:
Running, building and managing a business takes time. So I make sure at the start of every week I set the goals I want to achieve for the week and what I need to do.
Positive:
When I launched so many people said they will buy as soon as it launches, so you expect mass sales when you go live, but this was not the case. The sales will start off slowly and gain momentum, so don’t get despondent. Also have to remember the current times we are in and how they may affect the business. It is tough starting a business, but when you super passionate about the business, you will give you all to make it work, and this is very much the case for myself.
Where do you see your businesses in 5 years?
I would love to see my business as a successful well known activewear brand that caters for women of all shapes and sizes, making each and every women wearing Styletica feeling confident in their own skin. Grow the range of clothing and products to be able to offer more. I would love to collaborate with some influential women along the journey, to help build and develop Styletica into my full blown dream.
What is your advice to individuals out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?
Taking the decision to start your own business is no easy one, but if you are super passionate about the business you want to start, then go for it. Your passion is the perfect base to build and start a new business. Take the step and go for it. Being your own boss is so rewarding and yes also tough, but nothing better than waking up everyday and doing what you love most.
