So my #girlboss series is not only to honour the amazing #girlbosses that live and breathe amongst us, but to also share awesome brands and companies with you that maybe you haven’t had the pleasure of knowing exist yet! So let me introduce you to THAT STATIONERY SLUT. Gorgeous, curated range of stationery and stationery accessories for all tastes and budgets. Sourced for you, the stationery junkie so that you don’t have to go missioning around to find all these pieces on your own. And the ultimate plus? They deliver! You don’t even have to leave the house – so keep your pj’s on, pick and choose, pay and it will be delivered – convenience at its best.

So THAT STATIONERY SLUT is one of those incredible finds that I wanted to share with you. Let’s be honest, we all love stationery, and thank goodness its all become so much cooler and more exciting than the standard items we used to get for school days. And now we are adults, we can splash out on things we love – the joys of adulting!

So I wanted to share some of my favourites pieces and a little interview with the founder of THAT STATIONERY SLUT – the foxy Jen. The brand is fun, smart, entrepreneurial, with a wicked sense of humour. What’s not to love?!

There are so many products to choose from, and more get sourced all the time so you need to keep checking the site and social media to see whats has been added. I love the fact that stationery has become so important it has its only cult! Stationery lovers, like myself, can be slightly obsessed and require everything in one of each colour.. I often wonder if I need to go back to school or further my studies to use all this stationery I’ve acquired over the years!

I love washi tape.. I will washi tape anything that doesn’t move in our home.. seriously, best DIY item around! And don’t get me started on highlighters – in pastel colours? Be still my beating heart! Highlighting my to do list is my favourite part of the day, let’s be honest.

And these gorgeous journals? OMG. So beautiful and will make an awesome gift for someone special.. or for yourself.

If you are like me and love lists, these awesome downloadable docs are amazing. MUCH better than writing them out on a million pieces of exam pad lying around the house #truestory. These can be paid for and downloaded straight away!

Then these pencil bags are also really cool and make a statement on your desk, at work or at school.

Are these not the cutest pins EVER? Big fan of these – for your pencil bag, handbag or jacket, shirt or hat – so versatile! My best? BE KIND. I really believe those are words to live by but others may think BRING ME A G&T are words to live by too.

So I asked the owner of THAT STATIONERY SLUT, the lovely Jen, some questions to get to know her and her awesome business better. Here we go:

You started your own business – How does it feel to be a successful #girlboss that inspires others and loves what she does?

That Stationery Slut is the second business that I have started. I started my design and social media agency in 2011. Running my own business is obviously in my blood, but it was never something I ever saw myself doing. The first business almost just happened, but TSS was a conscious decision and leap. And there is not a day that goes by where I have not learnt something new, or caught a glimpse of our branding or products and thought “I did that”. Watching your business flourish into a well-oiled machine is a feeling that I hope all future #GirlBosses get to feel. No matter how tough things get, it will always be worth it.

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

Good service is everything. Building relationships are so important to the success of a company, and offering good service costs you nothing. It is the small touches that matter to clients, and it’s what keeps them coming back over and over again.

International shipping is shit expensive. This is an unfortunate part of my business that I have to deal with weekly. Sometimes the shipping costs are more than the products themselves. I have had to find ways around this – there are always ways around a problem.

You just have to be determined enough. Never stop loving what you do. There are moments when it gets tedious or starts to feel like a schlep, but I’ve learnt to stop and remember why I started this. And making people happy really makes me happy.

Where do you see your business in 5 years?

My dream for That Stationery Slut is to ship internationally – we have so much to offer locally, that I would like to show the rest of the world. I would like to incorporate many more locally manufactured items to our shop too.

What is your advice to women out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

If you don’t take the first step, you will be stuck in a puddle of regrets forever. Start small, and go from there. The first step to running your own business does not have to be this gigantic gesture of quitting your current job – you will still need a monthly income as startups don’t generally bring in profit in the beginning. Running a successful business requires a lot of planning and legwork. Plan out your steps into manageable actions – branding, registration of the company, buying your domain etc. Once you’ve got all the small, but important bits out of the way, you will feel a lot more confident in tackling the rest.
