A very dear friend of ours have taken the step to be a Vegan and we wanted to support her in her quest by trying out a local Vegan eatery – so the first eatery that came to mind was this special spot! We were super excited to try our first Vegan meal and we were pleasantly surprised.
The Fussy Vegan is a tiny little eatery, found at the Caltex garage on Jan Smuts Avenue in Blairgowrie. Don’t let its size put you off – it was like a train station (which matches the décor!) as the customers did not stop coming in – dynamite comes in small packages that’s for sure! Vegan prayers have been answered – food, drinks and even non eds like deodorants and cleaning products are for sale.
Having only opened a few weeks ago, they truly have made an impact on the Vegan (and non!) community.
They have sit down and take away facilities. We decided to eat in and ordered the Mushroom and lentil lasagna and the Burrito. They were super flavoursome and filling and we were blown away. Portions are big and we left full and satisfied. The meals are between R40 and R80, so really affordable.
We also took a take away ready-made sarmie home with us – tofu and mayo… I kid you not, tasted just like Chicken Mayo, I couldn’t tell the difference.
So we may not be Vegans (YET) but we most definitely did not feel like our dishes were lacking meat. We are embarking on Meat free Mondays at home – so let’s see where this journey takes us!
