So as you all know I love to support local and started a #girlboss segment where we could share, learn and inspire!

During lock down, we are going to do a whole lot of these to highlight these businesses – many of which are taking HUGE strain during this time – and shed some awareness and love to all!

I came across the divine Whippety-y at the Field Market in Sandton last year. The little bow ties and dungarees, waistcoats and little hats made me week at the knees! Their clothing is unique and very hipster-ish and stylish!  Check out their website. All proudly South African and made with love.

Let’s learn more from Bronwyn, the Creative Director and brains behind the brand 🙂

You started your own business – How does it feel to be a successful #girlboss that inspires others and loves what she does?

This moment in time has forced me to reflect and process on a whole new level the journey I’ve been on with my very precious brand- I feel desperately blessed and even more focused on the vision and purpose- it’s not an easy journey being a #girlboss but it’s one where discovery of self has been such a great treasure for me/ the heights are so high and the joys so wild x

What are the top 3 learnings you have had to find out the hard way since starting your own business?

This is such a great question- man oh man I had no clue what I was in for when I began he he- I had to sink or swim in so many ways but top 3 mmmmm…

It’s a SIMPLE message that speaks the loudest- when I began I was so complicated with all sorts of thoughts and fabrics and designs and ideas- it took a long time to figure that out and I think I’m still learning- I’m a complicated person at heart ❤️
Generosity- it’s something I hold dear and it’s magical in business too- wherever you can- it has power to break negativity big time!!!

Business processes help you out!!! Get them going ASAP- it’s easy to be tempted to wing it in the early days but in the end it bites you in the butt!

Where do you see your business in 5 years? Once we have gotten over the effects of the lock down.

Well I know there’s tons of uncertainty and as these last few crazy days have shown – nothing can be set in stone but I believe in Faith, Hope and Love

I believe IF WE WORK TOGETHER, not be afraid of learning new things and being flexible- we will figure it out- as for me- my purpose is to be a platform where little boys are are the heartbeat – I would hope to see what I do flourish into being far more of a resource of life and hope to boy mamas and papas and boys of-course x

What is your advice to women out there wanting to start their own businesses but are too scared?

Well it’s kind of the right time for it hey- smile- I’d say it’s time to be courageous!!! Don’t be afraid to ask, connect, learn – collaboration is powerful and it’s needed immensely as we move forward- no it’s not easy but it’s powerful and activates you in ways that nothing else is able to!

Tell us 2 things that are the BEST part about owning your own business and make it all worth while?

I love freedom- being able to decide – even if that means extra hours and harder work!
Being present in my son’s life as he grows- after all he’s the reason it all began – his existence, his love has shown me that more needs to be done to showcase the beauty of what little boys are and what they need to succeed and become incredibly powerful men!
